playerbio

The Mellana Brothers were infielders who were born in Oakland, CA and played mostly in the PCL, Joe with Oakland and Frank with Portland. Joe had a cup of coffee with the 1927 Philadelphia A's, batting seven times and getting two hits (and two RBI).

Joe & Frank played in the Triple A Pacific Coast League, which is one of the longest running Minor League systems in history. Dating back to 1903, the PCL was so popular along the West Coast that it nearly became a 3rd Major League system, and certainly operated as such. Teams like the Hollywood Stars, the San Francisco Seals, the Oakland Oaks, and the Los Angeles Angels drew as much nostalgia as Hollywood itself.
