playerbio

Alphonse Dante Bichette Jr. (born September 26, 1992 in Orlando, FL) is a professional baseball third baseman and first baseman who is currently a free agent.

Dante was drafted by the New York Yankees in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft. He debuted in the Minor Leagues as part of the Yankees Gulf Coast League team, the GCL Yankees on June 20, 2011, but has not played in the majors.

The Bichette brothers were teammates on the Brazilian national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Junior played first base two games and split the other game between 3B and LF. He was one of Brazil's top stars, hitting cleanup, batting .400/.538/.700. He led the team in OBP (.076 ahead of Leonardo Reginatto) and OPS (94 ahead of JC Muniz) and was second in total bases (7, one behind Muniz), slugging (.027 behind Muniz) and average (.017 behind Reginatto). Brazil fell short in its bid for a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, though.
